This Piet Mondrian figurine wears a suit that perfectly mimics his 20th-century abstract compositions. The bold lines and solid colors are instantly recognizable to any art lover. But that's not all that this wooden toy represents—it's also a reference to another culture and era. Modeled after 17th-century Kokeshi dolls, the wooden figures are often gifted as a symbol of friendship in Japan. With this in mind, Sketch.inc has reimagined with the aesthetics of this famous artist. The result is the perfect way to tell your favorite creative pal just how much they mean to you.
Sketch.inc is the creative studio of Becky Kemp, an artist based in South London. She started her career as an art teacher but branched out on her own in 2011 to start her commercial practice. Now, her work is inspired by a "love of Nordic design and Japanese illustration"—traits found on her beloved Kokeshi dolls.
