About Caran d’Ache
Arnold Schweitzer founded Caran d’Ache after buying a pencil factory in Geneva in 1915. The name of the company is derived from the world karandash, which is the Russian word for “pencil” and in turn comes from the Turkish root “kara tash” that refers to blackstone—the origins of graphite.
